Frequently Asked Questions
What issues can hypnotherapy help with?
Hypnotherapy can be helpful for a wide range of issues, including anxiety, stress, depression, phobias, weight loss, and more. Hypnotherapy can also be useful for improving self-esteem, increasing confidence, and enhancing overall well-being.
Is hypnotherapy safe?
Yes, hypnotherapy is generally considered safe for most people. Hypnotherapy is a natural, non-invasive form of therapy that does not involve the use of medication or invasive procedures. However, it is important to work with a certified hypnotherapist who has received appropriate training and has experience working with clients with your specific issue.
What should I expect during a hypnotherapy session?
During a hypnotherapy session, you can expect to be guided into a state of deep relaxation and heightened suggestibility. You will remain fully aware and in control throughout the session, and can choose to come out of hypnosis at any time. The hypnotherapist will work with you to identify your goals and help you access your inner resources to achieve them.
How many hypnotherapy sessions will I need?
The number of hypnotherapy sessions you will need will depend on your individual needs and goals. Some clients may see significant improvement after just a few sessions, while others may require more extensive treatment. Your hypnotherapist will work with you to create a personalized treatment plan that meets your needs and helps you achieve your goals.
How long does a hypnotherapy session last?
A typical hypnotherapy session lasts around 60 minutes, although smoking cessation last around 2 hours for a once off session. The length of the session can vary depending on your individual needs and goals. Your hypnotherapist will work with you to create a treatment plan that meets your needs and fits within your schedule.
Why should I pick you?
As a result of my training at the famed Clifton Practise in Edinburgh, I am completely qualified, fully insured, and registered with the top professional bodies in the UK. As the gold standard in hypnotherapy training, I have received the Diploma in Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy (DHP) and the Hypnotherapy Practitioners Diploma (HPD).
I am a seasoned physiotherapist with 27 years of experience managing a busy private practice. My background will continue to have an impact on my work in terms of my dedication to confidentiality, data protection, and ethical practice. If I don’t think treatment will be effective for you, I won’t offer it. I will always act in your best interests by working with you or referring you to other qualified experts if need be.
Above all else, I firmly believe in the advantages of solution-focused hypnotherapy. I am absolutely committed to providing the best care possible for the people I work with, assisting them in moving forward and achieving their objectives and the life they desire. Having had this therapy for being dependent on opioids after suffering a spinal injury many years ago, I have seen the advantages of it myself.
How can I verify your qualifications?
I received my hypnotherapy training at the prestigious Clifton Practice, a renowned centre of expertise. The Diploma in Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy (DHP) and the Health Practitioners Diploma (HPD)- regarded as the gold standard in hypnotherapy credentials.
I have undertaken rigorous training and my credentials have been reviewed, approved, and validated by the professional organisations with which I have voluntarily registered. I adhere to a strict Code of Conduct, Ethics, and Performance as a member of the National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH). In addition, I must provide proof of ongoing training, professional development, and supervision.
These credentials and registrations guarantee that I am qualified, insured, and adhere to the highest professional standards of conduct.

Which conditions do you offer treatment for?
Solution-focused hypnotherapy can help alleviate a wide range of symptoms, including anxiety and low mood. Insomnia, pain, irritability, motivation, irritable bowel syndrome, a lack of self-confidence, and low self-esteem are a few examples of the difficulties it can help clients with.
Solution-focused hypnotherapy can be highly effective in assisting clients to quit smoking and overcoming other addictions. It can also assist clients in overcoming crippling anxieties. The approach has also proven useful in the fields of sports performance and business, helping clients maximise their performance and realise their full potential.
Can you ensure success?
There is no such thing as a 100% success guarantee, and no therapist should ever make such a claim. Success depends on numerous factors, including the client’s willingness to commit to therapy and change, as well as the therapist’s skill level. As evidenced by the testimonials on my website, I am highly trained, have extensive experience working with a wide variety of clients and conditions, and have achieved a high level of success in doing so. You have complete control over the number of sessions you receive, and we will review your progress each week.
What is hypnosis like?
We all enter and exit a hypnotic state throughout our daily existence. Have you ever been driving home and forgotten passing several intersections, or been reading a book and lost track of time? If so, you were in a state of focused attention, similar to the experience of hypnosis. Simply put, hypnosis is a state of focused attention. In this state of relaxation, the mind is more receptive to positive suggestion. During therapy sessions, you will either recline in a recliner chair or lie on a therapy sofa as my voice guides you deeper into relaxation. My recommendations are intended to assist you in altering unproductive thought patterns. You will not be required to speak and will keep your own secrets!
Clients frequently remark on how “ordinary” hypnosis feels, comparing it to daydreaming. In a profoundly relaxed state, you can often hear everything that is being said. In fact, you might consider it guided daydreaming.
What is solution-orientated hypnotherapy?
My approach to therapy incorporates techniques from ‘Solution-Focused Therapy’ and aims to reduce anxiety and soothe the mind. As its name suggests, it focuses on prospective solutions rather than analysing past problems. We do not dwell on problems. Instead, we acknowledge your current state, determine where you wish to be, and assist you in making the necessary alterations.
I combine Hypnotherapy and Solution-Focused Therapy techniques with “Brain-Based Therapy,” which enables us to understand how our brains create many undesirable symptoms and behaviours, and how we can harness its power to create lasting and positive changes.
If you are prepared to alter your way of thinking, the therapy can be highly effective in alleviating anxiety and stress symptoms.
Will I need to discuss my past?
My practice of Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy does not involve the analysis of traumatic past memories. If you have endured disagreeable events, we acknowledge that they occurred and assist you in moving on from your current situation to the one you desire.
Will I lose control?
No, you will maintain full control throughout the duration of the hypnotherapy session. Even if I left the room and did not return, you would still come round in a few moments. No one can hypnotise you against your will during hypnosis, as the therapist does not assume control of your consciousness. Nobody can force you to do anything against your will; your subconscious mind will simply reject any inappropriate suggestion. You will not reveal any secrets, and you will not even be required to speak. There will be no onion eating, gazing into my eyes, waving watches, leaping around like a monkey, or clucking like a chicken.
Will I recall every detail?
Yes, individuals frequently recall what is said to them during hypnosis. It is normal for your mind to wander and for some individuals to feel as if they have fallen unconscious (this will be explained in the initial consultation), but this does not indicate that the session was ineffective.
Is it possible for everyone to be hypnotized?
yes. A light trance state is effective and sufficient for the majority of therapeutic issues. This is feasible for the majority of individuals. The hypnotic state is typically easier to accomplish with continued practise.
Can I get stuck in hypnosis?
No. The hypnotic state occurs naturally, and we enter and exit it several times per hour, often without noticing. I simply create the conditions necessary for you to experience it for an extended period of time and use it to assist you in making beneficial and positive life changes.
Is this therapy suitable for children and teenagers?
Yes. As a physiotherapist, I have treated patients as young as new-borns and as elderly as 102 years old. This has allowed me to develop excellent communication skills with children and the ability to explain any concept in a child-friendly, calm, and, if necessary, play-based manner. These communication abilities will accompany me wherever I go. During the initial consultation, I will determine whether or not your child is likely to benefit from this approach. If you and your child so choose, you will be permitted to remain in the sessions.
How many sessions will I need?
This varies from client to client and according to the issues being addressed. Change can happen quickly, but as a rough guide in addition to the initial consultation, the average number of sessions can be:
- Depression and anxiety disorders 8 to 12 sessions.
- Specific phobias 3 to 4 sessions.
- Stop smoking therapy 1 session lasting 90 mins to 2 hours.
Each Person is different & responds differently, so some may need more and others less. There is no strict rule.
What is your confidentiality policy?
I abide by the Code of Conduct, Ethics and Performance policies of the professional bodies that I am registered with (The National Council for Hypnotherapy and The Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy). These require me to uphold the highest standards of confidentiality. All information about you is treated with the utmost care and will not be discussed outside of our sessions, unless you give specific permission for me to do so.
